The Samsung tv does not disapoint. Well worth the price I paid for it on sale at Amazon. The picture is outstanding there are many adjustments you can make to tune in the picture plus you can connect to the internet and download Samsung apps. Also theres 3D which is a mix bag this is early 3D technology the picture is darker and there are not a lot of 3D movies out there. Overall I really like this tv have not seen any of the short comings in the 2early reviews, I would buy this tv again in a heartbeat. Mitch.

After researching the purchase of 2 LCD TV’s for my kids, I was shopping around and discovered this Westinghouse. I actually didn’t think it would be a serious TV, as it was less money that comparable LCD TV’s sitting on either side of it on the stores shelf. All were on, and set to the same channel. So comparisons were easy! I was prepared to hate the Westinghouse, thinking is was in the same class as some of the “no name” brand sets..junk! After all it was less than 0.00!

But when we were getting ready to pick up the boxes of Phillips TV’s and put them in the cart to take home, we started reading the box thatthe Westinghouse was in. Did my eyes deceive me? Did it really say LED on it! No way. We walked over the the high end and expensive LCD TV’s. and the 32″ ones that said LED were 0.00 plus! Samsungs, Vizio, Panasonics, etc.

First of all, an explanation for the “electronically challenged among us..like me! A regular LCD TV uses fluorescent edge lighting to shine thru the LCDs to make the picture viewable. Good enough!

Then there are newer technology LCD TV’s with LED edge lighting…LED’s all the way around the screen shine thru and illuminate the TV screen. Saves energy because LEDs use a small fraction of the energy as the fluorescent lights. Better but the black and darker colors are not as “black”, and colors a bit washed out.

BUT…the Westinghouse LED back lit LCD’s have black blacks! Deeper color, brighter, vibrant colors (wait till you see the yellows!). And way less energy, about the same as a 40 watt light bulb. And the TV is slim..I mean slim!
1″ thick and 14 1/2 lbs!

Terrific featurers, nice price, outstanding technology for way less than others, all the featurers..great value over all! And I can’t even begin to tout the picture quality except to say you have got to see it yourself!

Samsung UN55C6500 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Black)

Samsung LED HDTVs combine breakthrough picture quality and advanced connectivity options that will keep you entertained 24/7. This UN55C6500 LED HDTV also makes it easy to be green, and will save you some green, by being ENERGY STAR compliant.

I had a 53″ Pioneer Rear Projection for 6 years now and decided to upgrade to something that was slimmer and nicer.

Simply put, the picture on this set is awesome! I have had it more than a month and very pleased with it. I bought it with the assumption that I would try it and if I didn’t like it just return it (since it is so expensive) and get something cheaper. I did a lot of research from seeing it multiple times and Best Buy and PC Richard and Sons to following an Audio Video Forum from actual owners regarding this TV.

Strangely enough there is a panel lottery as to what TV screen you will get. I received a SK03 panel and from what I read and know, the S panels have better off angle viewing than the C panels but more of a tendency to show clouding and spotlighting. I don’t notice any real off angle viewing since I am watching it from the front and I am lucky to say that there are no spotlighting or clouding issues (believe me I looked hard!). A lot of the clouding or spotlighting can be significantly reduced with proper settings but there are some panels that just show it more than others. I have tested it in many dark movie scenes with bright foregrounds as well as letter box movies (can be found easier by watching bright scenes with dark edges. Unfortunately this is a problem with most LED Edge lit panels and the higher-end Samsung LED TVs have the ability to dim this.

I don’t play games so I can’t comment on that but a friend brought over his PS3 to see how it looked playing some of his faster paced games (I read some people had issues with speed and shadow images) and he absolutely loved it. We didn’t encounter any issues with lag as others had. He was so please that he is planning to buy the same set to replace his Sony.

If you push the info button on the remote you see a little power meter that shows how much electricity this LED TV is using over a standard set. Not sure how true this simple meter is though…but it is still cool.

A couple words of advice:

Although the Auto Motion Plus looks great on (gives the picture a Soap Opera feel to it making it look a little too real). I personally set mine for Clear (or off if you prefer) as it causes more picture quality problems for me than it is worth and plus I can’t get used to it. Maybe once I mount the set I will give it another try to see if I can get used.

Please note that the TV will never display 120 Hz in the TV info bar that appears on the top left corner. This displays the resolution that your TV is receiving from the set-top-box, DVD, etc and will always display 60 Hz rate and the resolution (720, 1080i, 1080p). This is not the Rate the set is processing/displaying. You can be assured that the set is outputting 120 Hz.

I connected a wired internet (CAT5e) cable to the set and downloaded all the widgets and upgrades needed. Youtube widget work perfectly and I wasted a good hour before I was done. (can watch these movies in small window or full screen (although a little pixilated)). I haven’t used Facebook or Netflix yet but will down the line as it is pretty easy and convenient.

I haven’t used the DLNA feature too much as I have dedicated Media player that connect to my NAS. However I did try it and instantly saw my NAS and PC (had to install Samsung PC Share Manager).

There is also an iPhone app for this series that let’s you control aspects of your TV (makes it easier to type words on the screen (youtube, facebook, etc). TV and iphone must be using the same router. Not the greatest thing but kind of cool.

The greatest thing is this TV has SO many settings can you can tweak it to your liking

I advise people when you get this TV to look online for settings and forums dealing with this set and optimal settings as without changing anything I might have returned it. Set is simply breathtaking.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

This is my first LCD TV and I spent few days doing some research to choose a good TV. I did a specification comparison between several LCD TVs and finally had to decided between LG and Samsung. I choose LG TV as this one has 120HZ with 2.4 ms refresh rate.I am not sure how do these features affect the picture quality but this TV has excellent picture. I mostly watch movies over internet using netcast/DVD player and didn’t watch fast sport action yet. Sound quality for this TV is regular and you need to buy speakers if you want something special.

The wining feature for this TV was the Netcast functionality. I watch a lot of Netflix streaming over internet and this works great for me. You need to have atlease 3 MbPS connections to watch HD movies. Currently you can only have Yahoo Widgets, Netflix, Vudu, Picasa web album and Youtube available (no web-surfing).

I am disappointed that I had to buy a LG wireless adaptor ($ Seventy) to access wifi. You can use a LAN wired connection as default without the adaptor. This TV also has some power save modes which I am using a lot to decrease the brighness when needed or switch off the display when not needed (listening to music). As this is not a heavy TV (around 40 lb), so it is relatively easy to hang this on wall.

If Netcast is not what you need then I would recomend to have a look at LG 42LD520 which is a chaper bet than this one. I bought this TV when there were no review in Amazon but I am happy with my purchase and price.

I don’t have Cable or Dish at my home so I can’t comment on that.

After trying two other flat screen TVs and studying different models in showrooms and on the the web, my wife and I gave this model a try. My wife can be very sensitive to the intensity of an LCD TV picture and one thing she likes about this TV is that is has great adjustments for contrast, brightness, etc. In particular, the “Cinema” setting tones the brightness down and gives good picture clarity. She can also select a picture size or formatting that makes videos, widescreen or full screen DVDs, etc., all look good. Furthermore, there is no noticeable blurring. Overall the quality of the picture is superb, and it was worth paying a little more for the 1080p. Even TV programs not broadcast in high-def look great. In addition, unlike other TVs, the speakers provide sound of sufficient volume and excellent quality. I also like that it has plenty of inputs (including 3 HDMI, 1 component, and 2 composite inputs). Its ability to interface with SD cards and computers is also neat. And, in my limited experience, Panasonic has excellent customer service, with personnel who, in general, are more knowledgeable than most I have talked with at Samsung in regards to that company’s products. My only complaint is that the only audio output on this TV is digital/optical (for new “home entertainment” systems), which, apparently, is the direction newer LCD TVs this size and up are going. Sometimes I need to use headphones when I am playing something to which my wife does not want to listen. In order to do this I connect my Blu-Ray/VHS/or satellite box output to the input of a little 2 watt amplifier I have and run the headphones off of that, using the amplifier’s volume control, with the TV volume on “mute”. I would like for this TV to have a 1/8″ audio output. In spite of that, in my opinion it is worth 5 stars.

I don’t speak english enough for a review, so I’ll resume my experience with this amazing tv.

Pros:

- The first good impression I had, was the very good built quality and the soft weight.
- The Design is very nice, the TV side is really slim and the color is a kind of black mate, beautiful.
- The image quality is really impressing.
- The stand is the best designed I have seen.
- Is so far better than my 1 year old Samsung LCD Series 7
- If you have a Xbox 360 you will see totally different the way to play games
- The allshare is one of the best functions on that tv, pictures, videos, music and everything you have on your computer you can see on TV.

Cons:

- No 3D (I know is not included on this model)
- No built in wi-fi, only wired internet (You have to buy the wi-fi adapter separately.)
- The internet apps is starting so no expect the apps you see on amazon page
- The allshare doesn’t work with Mac

In resume i love it, I don’t know if is because is my first LED tv, but it is everything I was expected from Samsung and is better so far, I’m using 2 weeks now, and I can’t see movies o games again on my old TV.

::::UPDATE:: 04/19/2010

I’m updating that review to share how I have improved my experience with that TV!

  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Hi. I’m from Venezuela, and since, over more than 1 year i was planning and wishing to buy a HDTV. It was almost like one of my dreams, one of those that thanks to god i could accomplish. My search was really minucious and extensive, i have analized every detail of my future HDTV; Details such as: HDTV type… Plasma, LCD? Size…42, 46 o 50? Resolution… 720p, 1080p? Brand… Panasonic, Sony, Lg, Samsung? Contrast, Aesthetic aspect, and so many factors that i will not surely mention here because may be ill forgot.

Im i mechanical engineer, and one of my hobbies is watching movies… so, i was really exited about having a HDTV, where i could play trough my pc, several hi-def movies that i have already downloaded, at least until i can buy my media player (Patriot Box Media Player). As i mentioned, one of my labors as engineer, if not the most important, is to choose the best quality at the best price; in order words… the best quality-price relationship! In your english terms, it would be BBB (the best bang for the buck), so i have analized and determined, over 6 months of research that…

1) I live into an aparment, where my living room is about 10 feet x 25 feet, but im going to watch my tv from 7 to 12 feet aproximatedly, so, my ideal tv size was 46, because 50 was like toooo big, and 42 slightly small, but acceptable. Then, it was 46 or 42? we’ll see later…

2) HDTV type… Plasma or LCD? That was quite simple! Which has a better image quality for movies and sports? Which has deeper black levels? Which has a 0.00006 ms answer time? Which has a higher contrast ratio? For me, personally, and having seen several lcd tvs in other stores, the plasma tv beats totally the image quality on a LCD TV, its just amazingly better in every aspect, obviating the natural reflection of a plasma screen (glare). So, considering that actually almost all the Plasma TVs makers, have really improved every aspect of the plasma tvs, such as screen burning, screen life, produced heat, buzzing, glare and power compsumption, Plasma was just the best for me!

3) Resolution… 720p vs 1080p… lol… it was hardly difficult to me! Reading and reading, reviews, comments, oppinions, tests, and so… but just 1 mark the difference for me… the price! At this point i thought: 1080p is better, but it really diserves an extra 300$? Why 300$? My budget was buying a hdtv, from 42″ to 46″, 720p or 1080p” into a range of 500 to 800$. After a lot of research i found two fair options: The LG 42PJ350 (Plasma – 42″ – 720p – LG) and The Sony 46EX400 (LCD – 46″ – 1080p – Sony), both really BBB tvs, in my opinion; compared with many several others in their range. After all, i’ve decided for the LG 42PJ350, because for me, it was the really really BBB! Just 300$ less than the other option, of course sacrifying just the 1080p, but it doesnt matter to me because…

* I’ll use to play 720p bdrips on my pc (and futurely in my Patriot Box Media Player); but with high bitrates, 5000-8000 kbps, approximatedly 8 Gbs per movie, wich gives me 2 positive things (Ultra high quality video, even being 720p and not 1080p, and less disk space compsumption, without forgetting that it could easily go into a DVD-9!

* On a 42″ Plasma tv, at a more than 6 feet viewing distance, the difference between 720p and 1080p, at least for me, its almost unperceptible; not forgetting that its also a fair size tv for watching my hd movies!

* 300$ difference, its almost the half part of the price of its competitor.

* Lg, panasonic, sony, samsung? are all good tv brands, every one has good tvs, bad tvs, tvs for refurbishing, but they are all good and known brands, so LG was good for me, considering also the more of 20 positive reviews over my LG 42PJ350.

So my decision, was finally the LG 42PJ350… because of

* Cheap: just 500$
* Big: 42 inches
* Quality: LG
* Better technology for my purposes: PLASMA
* Aesthetic aspect: extremely beautiful, thin and just amazingly modern
* Lot of connetivity: 3 HDMI, RGB, AUDIO ETC… just missing the DVI input
* Image Quality: Totally beautiful thanks to its very high contrast and its dual xd proccessors
* Just the best outside in Tvs…

Thanks God for this purchase… It was one, if not the best bang for the buck of my entire life. Thanks Amazon!

Samsung LN19C350 19-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

Samsung LN19C350 19-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

Make the move to the smoothest LCD action ever. Samsung’s LN19C350 LCD HDTV offers incredible color and rich clarity, all on a 19-inch screen. Add the power of Samsung’s Wide Color Enhancer, for a picture that optimizes a given color’s hue, resulting in more natural rendering of colors and lifelike action. Samsung HDTVs are also ENERGY STAR compliant, helping the environment by using less energy while saving you money.

I like the size of this TV. It takes up much less room on the counter in our kitchen. We replaced a 14″ tube TV. The cable box connected to the new set does not bring in hi def picture and sound as we don’t have the room on the counter for the larger converter box. This may cause the signal to this set to be an analog signal and therefore the picture is not as bright and colorful as our 1080P Bravia set. This set is capable of 720P resolution.

Another major difference is we must turn the volume up much louder than the Toshiba TV we had there before. A sound level of 20 on the old set was loud. Needed sometimes to overcome the noise in a kitchen and still hear the TV. This set requires we turn up the volume to a level of near 60, 3 times louder, to hear programming at times. I was surprised, since that is more than half of the total volume capable on the set.

I’ve also made adjustments to color level, contrast, sharpmess and tint to get a better picture since installing the set.

Otherwise we haven’t had the set long enought to make other comments.

But it doesn’t stop there! Experience advanced sound technologies from SRS Labs and take pleasure in knowing this mercury free, energy efficient LED LCD HDTV exceeds new Energy Star® 4.0 Guidelines by 33%**, conserving our planet’s resources while saving you money.

I knew going in that this model, like most small flat screens, has tinny sound, so I can’t ding it too hard for that. It sounds worse on some things than others and I can live with it for the types of shows I watch (History channel, TLC, news, etc.).

The picture is great – super clean with very natural colors. Even standard definition looks reasonably good, better than on my 61″ model, I guess because everything’s squished down more.

Rapid motion is more blurry than my 120Hz TV, but that would be a fault of all 60Hz models, which is pretty universal in this size/price range.

I’d agree with other reviewers that the remote is not ergonomically good, not fitting in the hand well and buttons that don’t have a good feel. The volume is slow to change.

Overall I’m quite pleased with it.

I gave this four stars because This TV has a nice picture and some of the features work. If I gave it a rating on internet connectivity I would give it only one star though.

I’m having a problem with (and apparently I am not alone) the “Internet@TV” feature. One of the main features I purchased this model for is the internet application features. There are two types of internet features on this series of Samsung LED TV: One is called “Widgets” which gives some very limited internet content and it does work on my setup and communicates via the internet ok, the other feature is called “Internet@TV” which presumably gives all the advertised but missing functionality I was looking forward to. Internet@TV does not work with my setup even though my Widgets communicate on the internet fine, I can even go online to shop for, purchase, download and watch videos with my Widgets. I purchased, downloaded and watched one of my favorite shows “Whale Wars” the most recent episode. I know for a fact that my internet connection is communicating with the TV with the Widgets.

After many hours of trial and error with configuration changes, firmware updates (that was a time-consuming problem as well as Samsung’s website url for support files also has problems and also the TV will not do an update online) and unfruitful chats with Samsung techs I did extensive research online and found the problem I am having is a common and known problem with no apparent solution from Samsung at this time.

The common complaint is that people who use Verizon as their internet provider are the ones who have the most problem with the Internet@TV feature not functioning and with being able to download support files like firmware updates via Verizon not only via the TV but even when using a PC to try to do so.

As a tip for anyone using Verizon as their ISP who wants to try to update their firmware via a PC and USB drive: when you get the link for the download from Samsungs Support website erase the “org.” part at the very beginning of the link and try the link… it worked for me, I was then able to download, manuals and firmware with no problem. For example this edited link works for me for the firmware update [...] well I tried to help with the link but it was apparently deleted and not allowed here.

I’m writing this review to warn and inform that this is a concern and that the amount of time that others may waste on trying to get this Internet@TV feature to work with certain ISP such as Verizon or to get Samsung tech support on this issue will likely be be excessive and fruitless.

I’m very aggravated by this as most of the advertised features for internet connectivity that I was counting on DO NOT WORK. I would say, as a conservative estimate, I have spent at least 20 hours on this problem and am no closer to resolving it. I am now waiting for Samsung “Tier 3″ support to return my call…. someday. They agree something is wrong but that my network/internet appears to be operating OK. One of their experts is supposed to call me back….. probably, possibly? maybe? Seemed pretty noncommittal to me. They said if I don’t hear from anyone then I can try to call back someday. I never heard back from Samsung “Tier 3″ or any other Samsung “tier”. Samsung “tier 2″ told me all I can do is to call Verizon and tell them they are blocking my access to Samsung’s domain and Samsung Internet@TV. I’ve tried to get help with Verizon but gave up on after trying for a couple of hours with their tech support. I can imagine that Verizon will likely blame it on Samsung anyway.

You have been warned! If you buy one of these Samsungs for the internet features and especially if you use Verizon as your ISP… you better keep your box and packaging and make sure you are willing and able to return the unit for another brand or model that will work correctly.

If I have any success on this problem I will plan to amend my review here to reflect that in the future.
